UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski recently revealed that his daughter has been poking fun at him for his back-to-back losses to lightweight king Islam Makhachev.
Volkanovski first challenged Makhachev for the lightweight title at UFC 284 in February 2023 but lost a close decision. He then stepped in on short notice as an injury replacement at UFC 294, only to get knocked out in the first round.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Volkanovski shared that his daughter asked what he would do if someone broke into their home. After replying that he’s a world champion and could handle it, his daughter quipped, “What if it’s Islam Makhachev?”
Volkanovski admitted he couldn’t help but laugh at the unexpected jab from his own daughter about his struggles against Makhachev. Fans on social media also got a kick out of the story, leaving comments like “Volk’s kid got no chill” and “She went for the jugular.”
While getting constantly reminded of the losses by his daughter, Volkanovski has taken the experience in stride. He said the knockout shockingly snapped him out of a brief period of poor discipline, helping him regain his focus.
The featherweight ruler looks to bounce back this weekend when he defends his belt against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. But win or lose, Volkanovski’s daughter will likely have another Makhachev joke ready for her father.
