In a peculiar revelation about his preparation for his victorious performance at UFC 311, Czech star Jiri Prochazka shared details about an unconventional training method involving Mexican fire ants.
Through a video posted on social media, Prochazka demonstrated his unique approach to mental fortitude by deliberately exposing himself to fire ant bites. “If you’re looking for strength, you have to find the strength animals, strength places,” Prochazka explained in the footage, while allowing the insects to crawl on his leg.
The former light heavyweight champion described the varying intensity of the bites, noting that the ants found in grassy areas delivered particularly intense stings. “The bite was not so painful [from some], but like that was a painful bite like the fire in the leg,” he said, referring to specific encounters with the creatures.
This unorthodox preparation appeared to pay dividends in his bout against Jamahal Hill at UFC 311 in Los Angeles. Prochazka secured a decisive victory with a TKO in the third round, demonstrating remarkable resilience throughout the contest despite absorbing significant strikes.
“Feel the pain, overcome the pain, it’s all about that’s why we’re doing that,” Prochazka stated in the video, explaining his philosophy behind the unusual training method.
The victory has positioned Prochazka as a potential contender to watch during the upcoming Alex Pereira versus Magomed Ankalaev matchup at UFC 313.
