(Video) UFC fans say Power slap can’t even come close to Hockey Boxing

An impressive knockout went viral recently from a mixed hockey and boxing match. The video shows one competitor landing a devastating one-two combo, with the fight-ending right hand knocking his opponent out cold onto the ice.

As combat sports continue growing in popularity beyond traditional boxing, promotions have gotten creative with combining different disciplines. One of the most unique is Ice Fights in Russia, which mixes boxing and hockey into a single, high-intensity event.

The rules of Ice Fights are similar to boxing, with fighters wearing gloves and headgear while throwing punches. However, they also don ice skates to battle on a skating rink. Kicking is not allowed due to the sharpened blades, and two referees oversee the action from the rink.

While the concept may sound gimmicky, the athletes need tremendous skill to compete effectively while maintaining balance on the slippery ice surface. One recent Ice FightsMatchPassage showcased the dangers perfectly.

After some back-and-forth exchanges, one fighter in white protective gear timed his opportunity perfectly. As his opponent reset, the white fighter swooped in and uncorked a blistering combination punctuated by a rocket right hand that landed flush. His opponent crumpled immediately, hitting the ice surface hard and lying motionless as the referee waved off the match.

The dramatic knockout quickly went viral on social media, with UFC and combat sports fans praising the intensity of hockey boxing. Many commented that the new Power Slap League promotion, which has drawn criticism over safety concerns, pales in comparison to the sheer violence of Ice Fights knockouts.

While Power Slap continues drawing outrage and backlash, unique hybrid sports like hockey boxing show that fans are very much intrigued by creative blends of combat disciplines. As long as the athletes are well-protected, these aggressive styles will likely keep finding an audience among die-hard fight fans.
