(Video) UFC champ Tom Aspinall jokes he’s quitting UFC after failing to break punch machine record

Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has been making waves in the MMA scene. But when it comes to the PowerKube machine, he found himself trailing behind the record-breaking force of Francis Ngannou.

Former MMA champion Ngannou is known for possessing one of the strongest punches in the world. During a visit to the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, the Cameroon-born contender shattered records. He ended up reaching an astounding 129,161 units on the PowerKube.

Ngannou’s punch not only surpassed the previous record held by kickboxer Tyrone Spong but also showcased a speed power of 51,064 foot-pounds per second. To put it into perspective, this power is like the horsepower generated by a standard family car.

Ahead of Ngannou’s 2021 rematch with Stipe Miocic, UFC president Dana White shed light on the impact of Ngannou’s punch.

White explained: “Francis is a guy who has the world record for the most powerful punch. His punches are equivalent to 96 horsepower. That’s equal to getting hit by a Ford Escort going as fast as it can and it’s more powerful than a 12-pound sledgehammer from full force overhead.”

Curiosity led Aspinall to try his luck on the PowerKube, and the results were shared on his YouTube channel. Despite his respectable score of 45,000, Aspinall couldn’t help but express his disbelief when comparing it to Ngannou’s record.

Aspinall joked: “No, he can’t have got 129,000. If [Ngannou] did 129,000 and I did 40,000, that is ridiculous stuff. I think there’s something going on then, I’m thinking about quitting.”

Renowned UFC commentator Joe Roga recorded an impressive score of 151,000 on the PowerKube.

The 56-year-old and Muay Thai champion Joe Schilling landed a barrage of powerful leg kicks on the machine. The former amateur kickboxer really scored higher than Schilling.

Rogan said: “I think [Ngannou] got 120-something. 129, that’s so crazy. That’s what I get with a kick — with legs that carry you around all day. He got 129,161 with a punch, I got 152,000.”
