In a viral video that has been making rounds on social media, a Brazilian Aikido practitioner demonstrates abilities that would make even Jedi Masters raise their eyebrows in astonishment.
The demonstration begins with the practitioner confidently addressing skepticism about his art. “You think this is fake. It’s not. You are wrong. You don’t know exactly what Aikido is,” he declares while standing in the center of his dojo.
What follows is truly remarkable to behold. Without making physical contact, the master appears to send his students flying across the training area with mere gestures and points of his finger. His opponents tumble backward and roll away as if struck by an invisible force.
The master explains the limitations of his technique with surprising candor: “If I could do this with everybody, I would be a champion in the Olympic Games. But unfortunately, this is not possible with everybody. It depends.”
He then offers a scientific explanation for why his techniques don’t work universally: “From my research, we have differing frequencies of brain.”
Martial arts experts have long debated the authenticity of no-touch techniques in various disciplines. While traditional Aikido focuses on redirecting an opponent’s energy through physical contact and joint manipulation, what’s displayed in this video appears to be a more esoteric interpretation of the art.
Critics of such demonstrations point to the willing participation of students who may be conditioned to respond dramatically to their instructor’s movements. Supporters, however, suggest there might be psychological elements at play that science hasn’t fully explored.
Whatever the explanation, this video has certainly captured the imagination of viewers worldwide, with many commenting on the uncanny resemblance to the Force powers depicted in Star Wars. Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic, it’s hard not to be entertained by what might be the closest thing we have to Jedi powers on Earth.
