UFC middleweight Sean Strickland unleashed his fury at a Tuff-n-Uff event when he entered the cage and attempted to punch Luis Hernandez, who had just defeated Strickland’s teammate Miles Hunsinger.
The incident occurred immediately after Hernandez secured his victory. According to witnesses, Hernandez appeared to direct taunting gestures toward Chris Curtis, another member of Strickland’s team who was cornering Hunsinger for the bout.
Footage of the altercation shows Hernandez celebrating his win when Strickland suddenly entered the cage. The situation escalated rapidly as Strickland lunged toward Hernandez, attempting to throw punches while security personnel scrambled to intervene.
“I saw Sean smirk. And that is the end,” one commentator can be heard saying on the broadcast before the situation deteriorated. “Mustache Luis Hernandez gets it done. He’s talking to Chris Curtis and Sean… Oh wow. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.”
What makes the incident particularly ironic, according to MMA journalist Luke Thomas, is that Hernandez reportedly works as a police officer outside of his MMA career.
The MMA community has had mixed reactions to the incident. Some fans condemned Strickland’s actions as unprofessional and potentially criminal, with one social media user commenting, “There’s no place for that, assault charges should be filed.” Others suggested that Hernandez’s post-victory taunting warranted some form of response, with another fan noting, “Take the W but when you disrespect people like that, you should expect an answer.”
This isn’t the first time Strickland has been involved in controversy. Known for his unpredictable personality and unfiltered comments, the UFC middleweight has developed a reputation for confrontational behavior both inside and outside the octagon.
The Tuff-n-Uff promotion, which hosts amateur and professional MMA events, has not yet released an official statement regarding potential disciplinary actions against Strickland, who was attending as a spectator and coach.
