(Video) Pickleball Title Match Devolves Into Kickboxing When Losing Team Member takes it out on Opponent’s Face

A weekend championship pickleball match ended in shocking fashion when the celebration of victory turned violent, resulting in one player being kicked in the face by his defeated opponent.

Peter Shonk had just secured the winning point with his team in the title match when the incident occurred. After winning the final rally, an enthusiastic Shonk shouted “F— yeah” and approached his opponents for the customary post-game handshake.

In what appeared to be an accidental collision during his celebratory approach, Shonk knocked his opponent’s paddle from their hand while attempting a high-five. Recognizing his mistake, Shonk bent down to retrieve the fallen paddle – a gesture of sportsmanship that unfortunately left him vulnerable.

As Shonk leaned forward to pick up the equipment, his opponent seized the moment to deliver a kick directly to Shonk’s face, sending him sprawling backward onto the court. The winner remained on the ground for several moments following the impact.

Despite the intense conclusion to the match, Shonk later posted video footage of the incident on social media to assure concerned followers of his wellbeing. While the competitive nature of sports can lead to heightened emotions, particularly following championship matches, the physical altercation overshadowed what should have been a moment of triumph.

The good news for Shonk is that he not only walked away from the incident without serious injury but also with a championship title to his name.

Officials have not announced if any disciplinary action will be taken against the player who kicked Shonk.
