(Video) Jean Claude Van Damme was at Bellator and it got incredibly awkward

Bellator 290 was attended by many MMA legends, all gathered to pay their respects to the retiring Fedor Emelienanko.

Action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme was also present at the event. He had one of the most uncomfortable exchanges in MMA history after the ‘Sabah Homasi vs Brennan Ward’ bout ended.

The bout was short, yet entertaining as both  were quite aggressive. They both were bloodied from the action. The highlight of the first round was Homas’s failed flying knee which Ward turned into a takedown. He tried a rear-naked choke but failed.

Ward continued his dominance in the second round. He hit Homasi with several great strikes and delivered a nice beatdown. Eventually, the ref stepped in after a head kick followed up by punches from Ward. The bout was called off one and a half minutes into the second round.

Then came the embarrassing exchange between Van Damme and Ward. While Van Damme is known to be an excellent showman, he looked quite confused and was in an awkward position.

He entered the cage and reached out his fist to Ward in a fistbump attempt. But instead of bumping it, Ward slapped his fist. Van Damme then went for a classical hug while Ward had a side hug in mind.

The hilarious moment had Ward looking toward the camera while the “Universal Soldier” was trying to hug him. Ward finally turned around and hugged the actor.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Van Damme has had an awkward moment in the cage. He once entered the cage after one of Fedor’s victories. He delivered a creepy hug to the “Last Emperor” by kissing his neck and touching his face.

Putting aside his weird hugs, Van Damme is actually a great combatant. He has won championships in karate and kickboxing and was a knockout artist back in the day. Despite not being in his prime anymore, he still continues to train martial artists today.
