Usman Nurmagomedov fires back at Topuria: (I) will tear your a*s

After the title match at UFC 298 on February 17, 2024, Ilia Topuria claimed the UFC Featherweight championship. In addition to that, he has emerged as a sought-after figure in the MMA world. His second-round knockout of Alexander Volkanovski has propelled him to new heights of stardom, making him a hot topic among potential challengers.

Topuria’s remarkable victory has sparked discussions within the combat sports community about who might step up to face the rising star. Among the various names circulating, one unexpected contender has thrown his hat into the ring – Usman Nurmagomedov. He is the current Bellator Lightweight champion.

The undefeated 25-year-old Nurmagomedov has a flawless record of 17-0 (1 no contest). He recently called out Topuria in an Instagram story. Usman shared an image depicting a matador being kicked through the trousers by a bull. Nurmagomedov has since deleted the story, but the message was clear.

He wrote: “For every matador, there is a bull. Umar [Nurmagomedov] doesn’t have to move up in weight, he has a brother who will tear your a*s.”

Usman’s older brother is the undefeated 28-year-old Umar Nurmagomedov. He is set to return to action at UFC Vegas 87 against Bekzat Almakhan. Although primarily a Bantamweight throughout his career, Umar has compete in the Featherweight division before. He secured a first-round rear-naked choke submission over Brian Kelleher at UFC 272 in March 2022.

While Umar gears up for his upcoming bout, the future of Usman Nurmagomedov in the PFL remains uncertain. Bellator was recently acquired by the PFL, and Usman tested positive for PEDs after the unanimous decision win against Brent Primus at Bellator 300 in October 2023. Since then, Usman has been under scrutiny. The California State Athletic Commission overturned his victory to a no-contest, imposing a six-month suspension on the champion.

Topuria is currently planning for his first title defense in Spain. UFC CEO Dana White recently said that they might conduct their first UFC event in Spain, with Topuria competing in the main event.
