UFC veteran Tim Kennedy admits to Stolen Valor, But Tries To Deflect Blame

Former UFC star and Special Forces veteran Tim Kennedy has finally acknowledged he does not possess military valor awards he previously claimed, following mounting pressure from fellow veterans, former teammates and commanding officers who publicly challenged the accuracy of his accounts.

The controversy erupted when The Antihero Podcast exposed Tim for fabricating significant portions of his military service record and combat experiences in his book “Scars and Stripes,” according to multiple firsthand sources who served with him.

Initially, when confronted about discrepancies in his military awards, Kennedy attempted to dismiss concerns by referencing outdated documentation, claiming “I’ve never been the great paperwork guy, the great admin guy.”

The situation escalated yesterday, when Kennedy’s former Special Forces commander, Travis Warlock, and several team members came forward to dispute numerous claims made in Kennedy’s book “Scars and Stripes,” including assertions about combat injuries and valor awards.

The situation became increasingly untenable after three of his former teammates appeared on the Anti-Hero podcast, presenting detailed rebuttals to Kennedy’s claims. Kevin Wolf, the senior communications sergeant who served alongside Kennedy, directly contradicted Kennedy’s account of sustaining serious combat injuries, stating, “I have no recollection of this.” The team’s medic similarly reported no memory of treating Kennedy for the injuries he described in his book.

Following this public scrutiny, Kennedy finally issued a statement acknowledging he does not possess a Bronze Star with V device or Purple Hearts.

However, his admission came packaged with what many view as an attempt to deflect responsibility, claiming “I have never claimed to have bronze star medal of valor or purple hearts” – despite documented evidence showing otherwise, including posts on his own social media where he stated he had “received valor awards for every combat rotation.”

However, this defense is dubious because Kennedy’s own website had previously included content that listed him as having “earned a bronze star medal for valor under fire.”

It’s worth mentioning that this file hosted on his site is a UFC press kit – and he’s unlikely to have made it himself.

Another veteran led channel pointed to Kennedy’s own introduction in the Hall of fame in which Kennedy is seen gloating in the background as the host introduces him in the following manner: “In the Special Forces, he deployed on Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom multiple times. Among his multiple awards from the Army are the Bronze Star Medal and the V device, awarded for valor under fire.”

The controversy has reportedly reached the highest levels of Special Forces command, with many active duty Green Berets, including Battalion Sergeant Majors and Command Sergeant Majors, expressing serious concern about Kennedy’s misrepresentations. As one veteran noted, “The embellishments are—I mean that’s a kind word for a lie—but it really just denigrates the sacrifice of everyone in those units.”

Kennedy’s credibility has been further damaged by his handling of other disputed claims from his book, including an alleged confrontation with Commander Warlock that multiple team members say never occurred. When asked to address these discrepancies, Warlock revealed that Kennedy had agreed to record a video correction but ultimately released a version that conspicuously omitted the promised retractions.

This controversy has cast a shadow over Kennedy’s previous media appearances, including multiple high-profile interviews on some of the most famous podcasts in the world including Joe Rogan’s, Jocko Willink’s and Shawn Ryan’s where these claims went unchallenged. The situation continues to develop as more former teammates come forward to dispute various aspects of Kennedy’s military service accounts.
