UFC legend Vitor Belfort has developed “perfect” glove for Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou exhibition

UFC veteran Vitor Belfort designed new gloves that are fit for boxers and mixed martial artists. He proposed his invention for the Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury crossover match.

A mega event between the best heavyweight boxer and mixed martial artist in the world will likely happen sometime in 2023. Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is no longer with the promotion and Tyson Fury repeatedly expressed his interest in facing Ngannou.

Ngannou has plenty of options to choose from but Fury might be the most lucrative even with his travel ban pending.

Fury proposed a very specific exhibition type ruleset for the Ngannou matchup – 4oz MMA gloves and hybrid rules complete with Mike Tyson as the referee.

Meanwhile, UFC legend Vitor Belfort proposed his new glove model.

He developed hybrid gloves that are a mix between the standard MMA and boxing gloves as per Mirror. His hybrid glove has open fingers but also has thick padding like a boxing glove. They have produced them in 8oz, 10oz, and 16oz variations for sparring.

Belfort, who transitioned from MMA to boxing, is highly interested to see more of these exhibitions.

“I’m not a boxer, I’m a boxer-martial artist. I was a boxer in MMA and now because I fought [Evander] Holyfield I’m a boxer? No, I’ve always been a boxer in MMA and my dream has been to bring these two sports together within one rule set called ‘BMA; Boxing Martial Arts’.” Belfort said.

“I want to see who’s the best striker; the boxer or the martial artist? Let’s combine them, put some clinch, some rules that could benefit the MMA fighter. MMA fighters are coming to boxing to make boxing relevant. That’s what happened, MMA guys started moving into boxing and bringing interest but the advantage is always going to be for the boxer, don’t get me wrong.”

“It’s impossible for the MMA fighter going into boxing with a boxer, and the same for a boxer getting in the cage with the MMA fighter. I’ve designed this glove, a special glove that’s a boxing glove with an open palm. I have it over here, it’s perfect and ready to do it, I would like to donate my gloves to them to fight.” Belfort added.

Belfort is currently set to box on Gamebred card in April against UFC veteran Ronaldo Jacare Souza.
