The scandal erupted when a video surfaced from the American Warrior podcast, discovered by the Stolen Valor Instagram account, showing Kennedy claiming he possessed a Bronze Star with Valor. In the clip, Kennedy described receiving the award after allegedly engaging and neutralizing an enemy combatant while under fire. However, this claim, along with numerous others made during Kennedy‘s appearance on Ryan‘s show, has come under intense scrutiny from Kennedy‘s former teammates and military verification sources.
In a significant move that signals Ryan‘s stance on the matter, the podcaster completely overhauled the thumbnail and title of Kennedy‘s interview episode.
What originally appeared as a standard episode now bears the stark warning
“Under Investigation for Stolen Valor”
and identifies Kennedy as being
“under investigation for false Bronze Star with Valor claim.”
Ryan also added pointed disclaimer language to the episode description, stating:
“We take the issue of stolen valor seriously and we want to be clear. The false claims of one guest will not undermine the integrity of the many veterans who have joined us and shared their stories truthfully.”
The Kennedy interview had become particularly problematic due to several troubling claims made during the conversation.
