In a recent incident at the Craig Jones Invitational, UFC bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili was caught on camera confronting a heckling fan in the crowd. The video, which has since gone viral, shows “The Machine” jumping over the fences to confront the fan who seemingly provoked him.
While Dvalishvili did not physically harm the individual, he did pull the heckler’s hair in what appeared to be an attempt to teach him a lesson. The incident has garnered attention from the MMA community, including current UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley.
O’Malley, known for his outspoken persona, reacted to the viral video with a mix of humor and concern. According to reports, the fan allegedly made a comment suggesting that O’Malley was Dvalishvili’s “daddy” or that O’Malley would win their upcoming title fight.
“Supposedly, Merab’s walking at CJI. There’s like a fence and then the bleacher fence. And one of the fans, whoever this fan is, I need to get your information, because it’s funny, said Sean’s your daddy or something like that. That’s what I heard. I don’t know how true that is,” O’Malley stated.
Expressing concern for Dvalishvili’s emotional state, O’Malley urged his fans to refrain from taunting or provoking his opponent. “Murab freaks out, climbs the fence. Damn near falls over. It’s a three foot fence. Tries to jump over the bleacher fence. Someone needs to push him up from the butt. He gets over the fence. He’s fucking stormed up the stairs. And he doesn’t know what to do with this guy. So he grabs this hair, which is a salt. And he can be sued for assaulting a civilian. You’re not allowed to assault somebody. You can’t just put your hands on somebody.”
O’Malley continued, “Attention all SugarShine on My Life fans. Would you guys please, from the bottom of my heart, quit making fun of Murab. Can’t handle it. He’s very insecure. His nose is fucked up. He doesn’t need you guys telling him that I’m his dad. So would you guys please quit making fun of Murab. His self esteem is not very high right now. Lay off it a little bit.”
While the incident has raised questions about Dvalishvili’s composure leading up to their highly anticipated title bout, O’Malley’s response showcases his concern for his opponent’s mental well-being. As the two fighters continue their preparations, fans eagerly await their clash at UFC 306, where the bantamweight championship will be on the line.
