Russell Crowe’s MMA Film ‘The Beast in Me’ partners with One Championship

Russell Crowe’s upcoming sports action film “The Beast in Me” has joined forces with One Championship.

The film, starring Daniel MacPherson (44) alongside Crowe, tells the story of a former MMA star who returns to the sport after a personal tragedy. Crowe takes on the role of a veteran trainer guiding MacPherson’s character as he seeks redemption in the One Championship arena.

Dan McPherson spent the last year doing Boxing Muay Thai & MMA for a role.

Production is set to commence later this year and continue into early 2025, with Bangkok’s Impact Arena serving as a key location. One Championship’s live event on January 24 will be featured prominently in the film, capturing the electrifying atmosphere of a real MMA competition.

One Championship’s involvement extends beyond providing a backdrop for the action. The company will take on a production partner and consultant role, lending its expertise to ensure the film accurately portrays the world of professional martial arts. Chatri Sityodtong, One’s charismatic CEO and chairman, will even make an appearance in the film as an executive.

David Frigero, who co-wrote the script with Crowe, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “With access to One’s vast network of athletes and events, we are poised to deliver an exhilarating cinematic experience that reflects the true heart of martial arts.”

Back in February of 2023 there were rumblings that they were looking to work with UFC and cast some prominent names from that promotion instead.

The film is being produced by U.S.-based Broken Open Pictures, with Tyler Atkins (known for “Ocean Boy”) in the director’s chair. International rights are being handled by the Los Angeles-based Solution Entertainment Group.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for One Championship, the organization has already ventured into reality TV with “The Apprentice: One Championship Edition” and now sets its sights on the silver screen.

For Crowe, this project represents a return to Thailand, where he previously worked on “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” in late 2021. During that visit, the Oscar-winning actor embraced the local culture, even taking time to interview candidates for Bangkok’s mayoral position and meet with the minister of culture.
