Ronda Rousey is venturing into the world of graphic novels with her latest project, “Expecting the Unexpected.” The 160-page comic book, set to be published by AWA and featuring artwork from Eisner and Ringo Award-winning artist Mike Deodato Jr., is slated for release on July 25, 2024, through a Kickstarter campaign.
Rousey, who has already published her memoir “Our Fight” this year, is excited to share this new creative endeavor with her fans. “I felt like I had to tell this story because Expecting The Unexpected pulls from the most important parts of my life: motherhood, my career as a fighter, and fun action movies,” she said in the press release.
The graphic novel’s description promises a thrilling storyline that combines Rousey’s experiences as a mother and her background in combat sports. Readers can expect to witness a pregnant protagonist who finds herself thrust into a high-stakes adventure, complete with action-packed sequences that Deodato Jr. will bring to life through his skilled artistry.
“I knew I needed an artist who understood how to translate my fighting from real life to graphic novel artwork, so it’s been truly gratifying watching Mike Deodato bring this story to life,” Rousey explained. “I’m so excited to work with AWA and share my very first graphic novel with the world and I hope comic fans will enjoy this adventure.”
