Francis Ngannou was once considered a significant underdog in his boxing match against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. But just last month, he defied all odds.
In a brilliant display of skills, Ngannou not only managed to knock down Fury but came close to securing victory against Fury in boxing.
Mike Tyson is an iconic figure in the world of boxing and played a crucial role in Ngannou’s preparation for the match. Elated with Ngannou’s performance, Tyson expressed his admiration for how Ngannou handled the high-pressure situation even in the face of a split decision loss.
During an episode of his show ‘Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson‘, the legendary boxer shared his insights on what made training Francis Ngannou a truly special experience.
Tyson emphasized: “I’m proud of Francis Ngannou because he listened to everything I said, and I was telling everybody about the great left hook that he landed on his sparring partner and actually broke his leg and I knew if he landed that left hook on anybody they were gone and I was right. The champ went down.”
He continued: “I’m happy. I’m very grateful to be involved with his glory, his victory. I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of Mr. Francis.”
Ngannou’s recent surge in prominence has positioned him as a legitimate contender in the heavyweight division of boxing. Speculations about potential matchups with renowned combatants like Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder have been circulating. Additionally, the possibility of a rematch with Fury in the future cannot be discounted.
In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Ngannou hinted at an enticing offer on the horizon. Notably, he mentioned that Deontay Wilder has been honing his skills for a potential venture into MMA.
This leaves the door open for a potential clash between the two, whether under conventional boxing rules or within the realm of mixed martial arts.
