As the anticipation builds for the main event of UFC Kansas City, former featherweight champion Max Holloway is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon after 9 months.
Holloway will be facing off against the rising star Arnold Allen in a match that has the potential to be an instant classic. While Holloway aims to make his way back into title contention, Allen will be looking to maintain his perfect UFC record. He’s currently 11-0.
The winner of their match will be moving closer to the UFC title. Fans have been raving about Holloway’s incredible in-cage performances for years. But this time, he has given us a surprise outside the Octagon as well.
As the media day for the April 15 event approached, Max Holloway showed up with a clean-shaven look. The 31-year-old looked youthful, perhaps taking everyone back to his earlier years. During his combat sports career, the Hawaiian has shown off a variety of distinctive tattoos and hairstyles.
The 31-year-old UFC contender revealed that it was his wife who was responsible behind this new look.
He shared with the journalists: “You can thank my wife for this. One day she told me, ‘Take it off’.’ She loved it and she told me, ‘Keep it off.’ It’s kinda irritating though, like keep it shaved and stuff. I gotta give me a buzzer, you know?”
Max Holloway is married to his wife, Alessa Quizon.
She is a professional surfer from Makaha, Hawaii. Quizon’s love for surfing dates back to her childhood. She started surfing at the age of seven and by the time she turned ten, she was already competing in local surfing competitions. In 2015, Quizon won the Maui and Sons Pichilemu Women’s Pro.
Max Holloway and Alessa Quizon’s relationship began in early 2020 during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. By November of the same year, Holloway took to Instagram to announce their engagement. The couple tied the knot on April 16, 2022.
Max shared glimpses of their wedding on his Twitter account. He captioned his post: “I get to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate. 4/16/2022 #TheHolloways”
Holloway also spoke about his wife for the first time on the UFC 276 countdown. He said: “My wife is Alessa Holloway. She is a professional surfer. It’s a match made in heaven, you know. Two pro athletes, from the same town, making it.”
