Matt Serra blasts Sean O’Malley’s coach for playing “dirty”: Merab would eat him in a streetfight

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra has strong words for Sean O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch following a controversial incident at UFC 306.

During Merab Dvalishvili’s bout against Sean O’Malley, an unusual scene unfolded as Dvalishvili appeared distracted by verbal exchanges with Welch, who was attempting to disrupt his focus from cageside.

This tactic seemed reminiscent of UFC 292, where Welch employed similar methods during O’Malley’s victory over Aljamain Sterling. In that instance, Welch was heard misdirecting Sterling with instructions, shortly before O’Malley landed a decisive right hand that led to the finish.

Speaking on the OverDogs Podcast with Mike Perry, Serra expressed his disapproval of these tactics: “Sean O’Malley is a nice kid but still has a kid’s mentality. He’s like, ‘Well, there’s weight classes for a reason,’ and Merab would eat him in a street fight. I don’t give a f*ck what that ginger [Welch] knows. He would eat them up.”

Serra continued his criticism: “I’m not a fan of the guy because when they were fighting he does some dirty f*cking co*rny sh*t. It might not be against the rules but you’re being a little b*tch right now.”

In related news, Henry Cejudo recently discussed his UFC 298 encounter with Dvalishvili, where he experienced a challenging night. “Merab did a good job. It’s fu*king embarrassing, dude. I got fu*king carried, dude. I got carried like somebody was throwing me into a pool. I’m going for a ride,” Cejudo admitted on the Pound for Pound podcast with Kamaru and Henry.
