Mayra Bueno Silva faced off against TUF 28 champion Macy Chiasson at UFC 303. Coming off a loss in a title bout at UFC 297 against Raquel Pennington, Bueno Silva was looking to bounce back against the towering Chiasson.
The action started with Chiasson using her size advantage, mixing in kicks and big swings. Bueno Silva, a heavy hitter herself, appeared to have trouble with Chiasson’s reach. However, she continued to fire back, and the two engaged in a flurry of strikes in the closing moments of the first round.
The second round saw Chiasson gain the upper hand early, landing a devastating elbow that opened up a deep gash on Bueno Silva’s head. Bueno Silva attempted an arm-bar from her back, but Chiasson was able to escape and return to her feet. The referee then stepped in to check on the cut, and ultimately waved off the fight, declaring Chiasson the winner by TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at 1:58 of the second round.
Following the bout, Chiasson spoke about her decision to dedicate herself to the sport, after nearly calling it a career not that long ago. She’s now 2-0 since returning from an extended layoff earlier this year.
The victory was a significant one for Chiasson, as she continues her climb back to the top of the women’s bantamweight division. For Bueno Silva, the loss was a tough one, but she’ll undoubtedly be back stronger than ever as she looks to bounce back from the setback.
