The legal battle between Logan Paul and investigative YouTuber Coffeezilla has entered a new phase as a federal judge has ordered both parties to participate in mediation by November 10, 2025.
The defamation lawsuit, stemming from Coffeezilla’s exposé on Paul’s failed CryptoZoo NFT project, has been effectively frozen while both sides attempt to reach a settlement before the scheduled May 4, 2026 trial date.
According to sources, the controversy began when Coffeezilla released a three-part investigation into CryptoZoo, a project that promised investors “a fun game that makes you money” but ultimately failed to deliver.
Paul and his team collected substantial funds from investors who received nothing in return, prompting Coffeezilla’s detailed expose. Paul responded by filing a defamation lawsuit, claiming the investigator’s statements were false and damaging to his reputation.
Mediation represents a critical juncture in civil litigation, offering both parties an opportunity to resolve their dispute without the uncertainty and expense of a jury trial.
During mediation, a neutral third party—typically a retired judge or experienced litigator—meets separately with each side to assess the strengths and weaknesses of their cases. This process allows both parties to view their positions more objectively and potentially find common ground.
The stakes are significant for both parties. If Paul wins at trial, he could theoretically secure millions in damages. However, proving defamation presents substantial challenges.
Coffeezilla’s documented communications with the FBI and SEC regarding CryptoZoo suggest he had genuine reasons to believe his reporting was accurate, which could undermine Paul’s claims that the statements were made with reckless disregard for the truth.
For Coffeezilla, the risk lies in the potential financial burden of a loss, though settlement would likely require some form of payment or concession. Both parties must weigh the costs of continued litigation, including mounting legal fees, against the benefits of reaching an agreement now.
