In a conversation on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show with UFC heavyweight Sean Sharaf, host Joe Rogan offered his thoughts on the shifting political landscape surrounding Donald Trump’s presidency.
When Sharaf directly asked Rogan about his evolving perspective on Trump after initially supporting him, Rogan didn’t hold back. The podcast host acknowledged that many people, himself included, had supported Trump partly due to his “no new wars” promise during the campaign. However, the reality has proven different.
“The no new wars thing is the one that messed up a lot of people,” Rogan stated plainly. “No one thought that we were going to go into this prolonged war with Iran that who knows how long that’s going to take and what that’s for.”
Rogan went further, explaining the confusion surrounding the conflict’s justification. While some claim Iran was ramping up missile production and needed to be stopped, Rogan cited other experts who paint a different picture.
“There’s a lot of other people that know a lot about nuclear weapons and say not only is it incredibly difficult to develop a nuclear weapon, but they weren’t even close to doing it,” he explained.
The conversation revealed Rogan’s fundamental position on foreign military intervention.
“I don’t like any of that,” he said. “I don’t like any people being sent over to a foreign country for a war that most people don’t want.”
This wasn’t the first time Rogan has expressed skepticism about American military adventures abroad. He noted that he’s been vocal about these concerns for years, but the Iran situation represents a breaking point for many who had hoped Trump would chart a different course on foreign policy.
The discussion also touched on the pattern of campaign promises versus governing reality. Rogan pointed to President Obama as another example, noting how his campaign website once featured protection for whistleblowers as a key platform. However, his administration become “one of the worst for whistleblowers,” pursuing figures like Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning.
“I have never been impressed with any single individual politician who comes along and changes everything,” Rogan reflected. “They all say they’re going to do something and they never wind up doing exactly what they’re doing.”
