Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul believes that former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor’s hype is slowly fading away. The 27-year-old recently labeled the Irishman as an “embarrassment,” claiming that he has not won a fight in “six or seven years.”
In an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour podcast to promote his upcoming boxing match against Mike Perry, ‘The Problem Child’ discussed how McGregor was ruining his own legacy with his online persona and actions.
Calling McGregor a “maniac,” the younger Paul brother expressed a sense of sympathy for ‘The Notorious,’ stating that the former UFC star had “lost his mind.” With Perry also joining Paul on the show, Helwani prompted the discussion towards a potential McGregor appearance at their upcoming bout on July 20th. While both fighters expressed their desire to have the Irish superstar in attendance, Paul didn’t hold back in his criticism of McGregor.
Paul pointed out that McGregor’s last win in the UFC was years ago, suggesting that the “Mystic Mac” show was over. However, it wasn’t McGregor that Paul wanted to face in the octagon – it was Mike Perry.
Paul is set to make his MMA debut with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), though a specific date has not been revealed yet. With his boxing obligations keeping him busy, the 27-year-old is eager to step up and meet Perry in the octagon or even in the realm of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).
When asked about the chances of a two-fight deal, Paul candidly expressed his willingness to take on Perry, describing himself as a “crazy motherf**r.” However, given the unpredictable nature of Perry’s fights, especially those where he has no gloves, Paul will have to be truly “crazy” to take on the bare-knuckle boxer.
