Ilia Topuria: “100%, I could beat Khabib.”

In a recent interview, reigning UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria fearlessly expressed his eagerness to face MMA icon Khabib Nurmagomedov in what would be a dream matchup for many MMA enthusiasts.

Known for his flamboyant style, Topuria confidently asserted that he is unequivocally certain of his ability to defeat the former longtime lightweight champion.

Topuria’s call-out to Nurmagomedov didn’t lack boldness. During a recent interview, he shared his willingness to step into the octagon with the undefeated MMA icon. Acknowledging Nurmagomedov’s impressive 29-0 record and the chance of making history, Topuria emphasized his respect for the Russian.

Topuria stated: “I would be happy to enter the octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov. He had an undefeated record at 29-0 and he had an attractive record for me, then also history. He is a worthy and honorable champion for me.”

He left no room for doubt, boldly stating: “100% [I could beat Khabib].”

After defeating Alexander Volkanovski by surprising knockout at UFC 298; Topuria unexpectedly called out former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor. Currently, Volkanovski is dying to get back at Topuria. But the champion wants to take on a new challenger.

Topuria also said that he wouldn’t be afraid to face McGregor if the chance arose.

Beyond Nurmagomedov and McGregor, Topuria expanded his list of potential opponents by calling out the reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. While no official developments have transpired, Makhachev responded by labeling Topuria as “another short guy wants to be smeshed.”

Topuria’s impact in the UFC was felt even before securing the featherweight title. Boasting an undefeated record in his professional MMA career, he has emerged as one of the promotion’s most captivating draws. His skills combined with a magnetic personality, make him a force to be reckoned with in the MMA scene.

As for Nurmagomedov, the MMA community awaits any concrete indication of the Russian legend’s potential return to the UFC.
