Gabi Garcia Announces Return To MMA With Title-Fight

In a recent announcement, Gabi Garcia said that she is set to make her comeback in MMA. She will be returning in a heavyweight title-match in a promotion whose name is yet to be disclosed.

She seems to have already signed a contract but has not mentioned who her opponent could be. It is obvious that the match will be for their heavyweight championship and that it will last five rounds. Garcia has really been outspoken about wanting to return to MMA for a while, even if some may find this surprising.

Garcia initially made the switch to MMA in 2015, having previously won two ADCC championships and six gold medals in the IBJJF World Championship. At one point in time, Garcia was the most successful female BJJ competitor in the higher weight divisions.

Given her history in grappling, Garcia was always going to be a reasonably successful competitor. But due to the weight class she competes at, she wasn’t able to acquire that many matches. She competed for RIZIN FF for most of her career. In three years, she had a 6-0 (1) professional MMA record.

After 2018, Garcia bid adieu to MMA and redirected her focus to professional grappling competitions. She continued to have success for a few more years until being submitted as a black belt for the first time in 2021, at which point she retired from IBJJF competition.

However, she did not completely give up competing. As the current world champion, she received an invitation to participate in ADCC 2022. Garcia fell to Amy Campo in the semifinals and had to settle for a bronze medal.

Garcia now seems to be aiming for at least one more MMA match before she ends her career in combat sports.

Garcia revealed her return to professional MMA through a recent Instagram story post on her official account. Jitsmag was the first to report on the development.
