Francis Ngannou famously worked in sand mines when he was barely ten:

“I started working in the sand mines in Cameroon when I was 10 years old.”

“I had to work to be able to contribute to my family home and pay for food and books for school. I used to feel frustrated seeing other kids who had things I didn’t. A lot of people looked down on me because I couldn’t even afford to buy food at breaktime. So I ended up spending a lot of my time alone. But that just motivated me. I decided I was going turn my setbacks into something good. I drew strength from my challenges. I let my hardships make me resilient. And now when I look back at how far I’ve come from those sand mines, I know I’m not lucky to have what I have. I’ve worked for it.”
