In a tense moment captured on video at Houston’s JokerStars poker room, former NFL superstar Adrian Peterson was involved in a physical altercation with another poker player following a disagreement over a hand.
The incident, which occurred on May 27 according to TMZ Sports, shows Peterson and another man exchanging blows as bystanders attempt to intervene. The chaotic scene unfolds with shouts of “Stop!” and “Hey!” as others try unsuccessfully to separate the two men.
Peterson, 40, who last played in the NFL in 2021, addressed the situation with TMZ Sports, downplaying the severity of the incident.
“Me and the guy, we’re cool,” Peterson explained. “We’ve known each other. It was literally like a brother situation. We agreed to disagree, we had our words, and we threw blows — and that was it.”
The former Minnesota Vikings star emerged from the altercation with a bloodied face, though he clarified that the injury resulted from falling into a chair rather than from a direct hit.
“I felt really bad,” Peterson admitted. “It’s a situation where I kind of regret it.”
According to reports, law enforcement was not called to the scene, and the two men reconciled following the incident. TMZ Sports noted that Peterson has already returned to JokerStars, being spotted at the venue on Thursday.
Peterson, one of the most accomplished running backs in NFL history, spent the majority of his career with the Vikings before shorter stints with the Rams, Cardinals, Washington, Lions, Titans, and Seahawks. Throughout his distinguished career, he amassed 14,918 rushing yards, led the league in rushing three times, and scored 120 rushing touchdowns.
Since retiring from professional football, Peterson has ventured into celebrity boxing, facing fellow former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell in a 2022 bout that ended with Peterson being knocked out.
The poker room incident marks another unexpected chapter in the post-NFL life of the future Hall of Famer, who appears to have maintained his competitive spirit beyond the gridiron.
