Speaking to IFL TV reporter Joe Public, boxing insider Spencer Brown revealed that discussions are underway for a potential crossover match between Tyson Fury and football icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The conversation began when the interviewer referenced a recent image of the two stars together.
“What on earth is the picture of Zlatan and Tyson?” the interviewer asked.
“It’s a warm-up matchup for Tyson,” Brown replied. He went on to explain that the pair had spent time together recently and that Ibrahimovic had already been putting serious work into boxing training.
“They had a great time yesterday together. He’s a big boy, isn’t he? Zlatan,” Brown said. “He’s been doing a lot of boxing training. I believe he’s up to like 10 to 12 rounds solid sparring.”
When asked directly whether the match was genuinely happening, Brown stopped short of confirming anything official.
“I’m only going on what you just told. I can’t, you know… I’m just telling you all I know,” he said.
Still, Brown made it clear there is interest from both camps if the financial side can be worked out.
“Tyson’s up for it, Zlatan’s up for it,” Brown said. “We just got to find the money now. And I’m going to go and talk to Turki [Al-Sheikh], see if he’ll throw the money in the pot. And Dr. Erkan. Come on.”
The interviewer continued pressing for specifics, but Brown refused to commit to anything concrete.
“I’m not giving you an answer to that one. It’s a silly question,” he said. “But look, anything can happen. It’s boxing. Look what’s happening tomorrow. A world-class kickboxer against the heavyweight champion of the world who’s undefeated, unbelievable. Anything can happen.”
Brown then appeared to strongly hint that Fury intends to take another match before a long-rumored showdown with Anthony Joshua.
When the reporter asked, “100% a fig ht for Tyson before AJ, though?” he confirmed, “100%” added.
Earlier in the interview, Brown had also praised Fury’s current physical shape, suggesting the former heavyweight champion looks rejuvenated.
“He’s looking really good, Tyson,” Brown said. “He looked younger than he did last year.”
