ESPN confirms Conor McGregor got in touch with UFC, set to face Michael Chandler this summer

Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor recently hinted at his imminent return to the Octagon following his venture into the world of cinema.

In a recent interview with ESPN, McGregor revealed his plans to make a comeback to MMA this summer. Although the exact date and event details remain undisclosed, McGregor expressed his enthusiasm for stepping back into the UFC Octagon.

He said: “We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go. And ‘The Mac,’ ‘The Notorious’ will be returning to the UFC Octagon this summer.”

McGregor teased a potential bout against Michael Chandler, generating buzz among MMA enthusiasts. The speculation gained traction after the two combatants served as opposing coaches on TUF reality show last year. While McGregor initially hinted at a June 29 showdown at UFC 303, official confirmation from the UFC is still pending.

Michael Chandler has persistently called out McGregor. This also includes a memorable appearance on WWE’s ‘Monday Night Raw.’ Under the publicly listed TKO Group, the UFC and WWE are sister organizations.

McGregor said: “Shut up, Michael, you f—ing imbecile. The man doesn’t shut up. I seen him on ‘Raw.’ I like Mike — I’m going to bust him up. I’m going to bust Mike up, yeah? If I say it, I do it. … If I say it, it gets done. Put that on my stone.”

Initially suggesting a match at 185 pounds, McGregor later hinted at possible weight class adjustments. Despite the uncertainty, McGregor’s focus remains unwavering as he prepares for his return to the Octagon.

With his sights set on a triumphant return, McGregor has resumed his training regimen. Despite setbacks due to injury and other commitments, McGregor’s dedication to his craft remains resolute, underscoring his relentless pursuit of excellence.

Looking beyond his upcoming bout, McGregor’s vision extends to potential matchups with old foes and new challenges. With two matches left on his UFC contract, McGregor eyes a showdown with Nate Diaz.
