Dana White Gets Questioned About UFC Stars Having To Work Multiple Jobs Just to Make Ends Meet

UFC CEO Dana White sat down with the hosts of The Breakfast Club podcast recently. What began as a relatively friendly conversation quickly turned more confrontational, as the hosts pressed White on athlete pay and his relationship with President Donald Trump.

One of the first major topics centered around athlete compensation. Charlamagne Tha God challenged White directly, questioning how the UFC boss could be worth billions while some MMA stars still struggle financially and work second jobs.

White pushed back on the criticism by arguing that the issue is not unique to MMA. “I’m sure some basketball players and baseball players still need second jobs too, until they make it,” White said, explaining that UFC athletes enter the promotion on entry-level contracts and earn more money as they build their careers and prove themselves.

The hosts then followed up by asking why the UFC has historically appeared resistant whenever MMA stars bring up unions or collective bargaining. White denied that the company opposes those efforts.

“We don’t act like that’s the enemy. If the athletes wanted to unionize, that’s up to them. It’s not up to me,” he said.

When one of the host asked if he encourages unionization, White replied, “Sure. We always have to deal with somebody.”

The conversation later shifted toward White’s long-standing friendship with President Donald Trump. Charlamagne referenced Trump’s reported 62% disapproval rating and criticism surrounding tariff-driven inflation, rising utility costs, cuts to SNAP benefits, and the failure to extend the Affordable Care Act.

He then questioned why White, given his close relationship with the president, does not publicly challenge him on those issues.

“Why can’t you tell your friend he’s failing the people? Because these are the same people who make UFC a success,” Charlamagne said.

White disagreed with the premise entirely, saying he believes history will ultimately judge the Trump administration more favorably than current critics do. He acknowledged that he speaks with Trump but claimed he does not deeply involve himself in political matters.

White stated, “Well, he’s the president of the United States. For me to get involved in, it’s like I’m sure people disagree with you that are friends with you.”
