Dan Hardy: Colby Covington did UFC a favor by calling out Poirier

Colby Covington just settled his rivalry with former teammate and best friend Jorge Masvidal last Saturday.Ā  At UFC 272 CovingtonĀ  managed to beat ‘Gamebred’ on all three judges’ scorecards by a wide margin.

During the octagon interview with Joe Rogan, Covington called out another former teammate-Ā  Dustin Poirier. Poirier previously competed at Lightweight but had been rumored to be moving up ever since his third fight against Conor McGregor.

The two seem to have some kind of history together, with ‘Chaos’ intensely throwing barrages of insults towards ‘The Diamond’ including some regarding his wife and kids. One of them is accusing Poirier’s wife, Jolie Poirier, of having slept with her husband’s nemesis, Conor McGregor. Another would be claiming to have fathered his child – by proxy. Yes, really.

“Itā€™s funny cause itā€™s very ironic because he talks about being a family guy, a good guy but he wants to fight me in the streets and potentially go away from his family.

“So, Dustin Poirier has all these stipulations to fight me. I just have one stipulation. My one stipulation is he lets the world watch and enjoy themselves.

“You know Dustin, like you do with Conor when heā€™s in bed with your wife Jolie. You little cuck.” said Covington last week.

This week he backed up those claims with another lewd rant:

ā€œI just took care of Miami street trash, now itā€™s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash,ā€ Covington said. ā€œWhere you at Dustin Poirier, you cā€“t. You said itā€™s on sight. Name the site, Dustin. Bring that jezebel of a wife and bring that little kid and Iā€™ll see you soon. Youā€™re next.ā€

The clash between Covington and Poirier received some positive reception from the fans, with this showdown potentially going to become another hyped grudge match like Covington vs Masvidal.

Former UFC fighter and sport analyst Dan Hardy also had his take on this potential matchup, with Hardy said the fight is doing “Uncle Dana a huge favor” as it will stop Nate Diaz from having his last fight on his current UFC contract.

“I reckon Colby is doing Uncle Dana a huge favor by calling out Poirier, and removing that ā€˜last fightā€™ choice for Nate.

Theyā€™ll do everything they can to stop Nate fighting out his contract and going elsewhere.” Hardy wrote on Twitter.

Poirier previously said he would not be settling the score with Covington in a venue that Covington can profit from.

ā€œNo. Iā€™ll never fight [Colby Covington] in an Octagon where there are finances on the line. If Iā€™m fighting Colby weā€™re both going to jail. Iā€™m going to jail. Iā€™m not going to fight him in an octagon. Heā€™s not making money off of my career and what Iā€™ve done. This is something different, you know. You will never see me fight Colby Covington in the UFC.ā€ said Poirier.
