Conor McGregor posts unhinged voice note: ‘I Got Locked Up, They Won’t Let Me Out’

Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor sparked confusion among his fans and followers with a recent post on social media.

He shared a voice note where he was singing a rendition of the song ‘Locked Up’ by the Missouri-born R&B star Akon. This unexpected move has left many wondering about the intention behind McGregor’s post.

McGregor has been out of active competition since his last match at UFC 264 in July 2021. During this event, he suffered a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier. This resulted in a fracture of his left tibia and fibula in the opening round of their trilogy match.

His participation in TUF 31 earlier this year saw McGregor face off against Michael Chandler, a former lightweight title challenger. This encounter hinted at a potential welterweight showdown between the two at the end of this year. However, McGregor’s anticipated return to active competition this year did not materialize.

Rumors have heavily linked McGregor to a bout against Chandler at the welterweight limit in a much-anticipated UFC 300 event scheduled for April next year.

McGregor recently said: “April is a lovely run up for me and I’d be happy with that. I’m in a good spot, I’ve been training – I’ve been leaving also. But I’ve been training and April seems like a good time to come back.”

Also there’s also talk of a potential summer comeback to the Octagon. UFC CEO Dana White recently disclosed to Adam Glyn: “He’s good, he’s ready. He wants to. He’s got to sit out for the six months to get back into the (USADA) pool. So realistically… could be looking at him next summer.”

McGregor’s recent statement during Tyson Fury’s boxing match against Francis Ngannou, where he expressed feeling constrained from his career, has fueled speculation among fans. His voice note of Akon’s “Locked Up” with lyrics echoing sentiments of confinement, has added to these speculations.
