Charles Oliveira estimated to have lost around $2.3 million due to scale snafu

Charles Oliveira is assumed to have lost around $2.3 million due to failing to make weight. UFC veteran Chael Sonnen explained in detail how missing weight could affect his earnings.

Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira came out victorious after submitting Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. Oliveira only needed 3 minutes to finish Gaethje with a rear-naked choke in Gaethje’s hometown in Arizona.

Charles Oliveira made headlineswhen he missed weight by half a pound and got stripped of his championship. The scale showed 155.5 pounds and the Brazilian was forced to vacate his belt.

Many fans were baffled by this decision.

Former UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen speculated about the possibility of Charles Oliveira losing a huge amount of money thanks to this error.

On his youtube  Sonnen explained

“I could probably come up with, right here in front of you, about $2.3 million that that scale failure cost him. Just so you understand how participation works for defending a championship. You must understand that word – defending a championship.” Sonnen said.

Chael Sonnen also speculated that Oliveira’s bonus from PPV would’ve been roughly $1 million plus $50,000 estimated sponsorship money.

“So you’re talking about the exact same thing, just that sponsor money goes down. You’re looking at another 30 grand… but also the pay-per-view clause, you’re looking at another million bucks. Don’t forget the escalation that would go into his built-in show fee. Does not happen.”

After defeating Justin Gaethje, Oliveira will have to compete for the vacant lightweight championship. ‘Do Bronx’ called out UFC star Conor McGregor during the octagon interview after saying he’s comfortable regardless of who the promotion puts in front of him.
