UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell made his stance on public education clear during a fishing trip with MMA content creator The MMA Guru in Arkansas.
During the trip, Mitchell declared that he will never send his son Tucker to public schools and explained his reasoning.
“I’m never doing public schools ever,” Mitchell stated while riding in his truck. “Tucker’s getting homeschooled. And that’s that, brother. Because they took God out of the public schools.”
Mitchell’s opposition stems from his own experience in Arkansas public schools, which he credits for turning him into an atheist during his youth.
“That’s why I was an atheist for so long is because of the public schools here. They told me I came from monkeys,” he explained. “They told me that the universe was made by the big bang and there’s a space and this and that.”
Mitchell views evolution and cosmological science as contradictory to his religious beliefs. “When I came to God, I realized what’s really going on. They’re saying all of that because that’s a tool from Satan to deceive,” Mitchell said. He argues that teaching evolution prevents students from believing the Bible because “it contradicts Genesis.”
However, Mitchell left open one narrow possibility for his son attending public school. “If I ever sent Tucker into the public school, it would be on a mission trip to convert the kids there,” he explained. “And I’d have to train them to be able to do that first.”
Mitchell described specific conditions for this scenario: “If God tells me to do that one day, I will. I’ll send him into a public school with the full anointing of Jesus Christ, the full authority of the Holy Spirit. I’ll send him into school with that. But what I won’t do is when he’s young, build him up in this community that casts God’s teaching out.”
Mitchell named his son Tucker after conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, whom Mitchell credits for introducing him to his wife Aaron. “If it wasn’t for Tucker Carlson, Tucker Mitchell would never exist,” he noted, adding that his wife messaged him after seeing Mitchell on Carlson’s show.
