Former UFC competitor and podcast host Brendan Schaub has found himself in an eyebrow-raising position, reportedly securing another THC-related sponsorship deal despite recently voicing strong opposition to m**ijuana legalization.
During a recent podcast appearance, Schaub delivered pointed criticism of the ma**juana legalization movement. He argued that widespread acceptance of c**nabis use is steering the country down an unproductive path.
“The idea that this can be a less dangerous d**g and help people out, it couldn’t be more wrong,” Schaub stated during the discussion. He acknowledged that ca**abis does offer certain health benefits, particularly regarding inflammation, but maintained his stance that broader societal acceptance remains problematic.
Schaub’s critique extended beyond health concerns to productivity and lifestyle impacts. He painted a picture of ca**abis users becoming sedentary and unfocused, suggesting that m**ijuana consumption leads to decreased motivation and increased screen time rather than meaningful activity.
“You’re going to smoke and sit on your couch and be not productive and scroll Twitter,” Schaub argued, expressing frustration with what he sees as a cultural shift toward acceptance of recreational d**g use.
The former heavyweight did concede that m**ijuana has legitimate medical applications, stating, “I’m not saying there’s not a use for m**ijuana. There definitely is in medical cases.”
Interestingly, Schaub used Joe Rogan as an example of someone who can maintain productivity while using ca**abis, but emphasized that Rogan represents an exceptional case. “Rogan’s an outlier. He can do it and still be super hyper productive,” Schaub explained, noting that Rogan was already highly driven before incorporating m**ijuana into his routine and didn’t begin using it until age 35.
“You’re not Joe Rogan, right? Most of us aren’t,” Schaub added, suggesting that the average person lacks the discipline and natural drive that allows some individuals to maintain productivity while using ca**abis.
Rogan has been one of the most vocal advocates for ca**abis legalization in the U.S., often highlighting its medical and recreational benefits on his podcast. Additionally, Rogan has often endorsed the use of CBD oil, quoting its benefits.
As an alternative, Schaub advocated for physical exercise as a healthier method of achieving similar mood benefits. He argued that running and other intense physical activities can produce comparable endorphin releases without the potential negative side effects associated with ca**abis consumption.
“If you just put your f**king tennis shoes on and go for a run, and if you can get the same euphoric feeling, you can get the same endorphins,” Schaub suggested. He pointed to the phenomenon of former addicts becoming long-distance runners as evidence that physical activity can serve as an effective substitute for chemical mood enhancement.
Ironically, reports suggest that Schaub has made over $300,000 from THC sponsorship deals previously, which makes his THC partnership questionable.
