Ryan Garcia has little faith in Francis Ngannou’s ability to defeat the best heavyweight boxers.
Recently, there has been a lot of debate between the sports of MMA and boxing. Many mixed martial arts competitors have been making a switch to boxing. Francis Ngannou is also making an effort to do the same.
Ngannou has not retired from competing in mixed martial arts. However, he has decided to explore his opportunities in boxing.
Ryan Garcia told Paddy:
“It’s gonna be hard or anybody getting into a new sport or vice versa boxing, somebody going into MMA, you know, it’s going to be tough. I think it’s gonna be tough for him. I know he’s a one-of-a-kind athlete, obviously that’s why he has the opportunity to go in there…”
“If you don’t understand the little aspects of it, you’re going to be in trouble. If you think you’re just gonna land a punch on anybody, it don’t work like that.”
Garcia wants Ngannou to be successful but is aware of the challenges involved in switching from MMA to boxing. He recently spoke to UFC’s Paddy Pimblett on Francis Ngannou’s potential in the ring.
Garcia added:
“I just hope he gets paid good because I don’t think he beats any of those guys. I think that he could get hurt by Deontay Wilder. I think all of them can knock him out, but I do want him to get paid so I wish the best for him, that gets the best deal.”
Ngannou has said that he wishes to compete in a boxing match before going back to MMA. While his time with the UFC is officially over, he is still being pursued by other promotions.
In April, Ryan Garcia will square off against Gervonta Davis. He has been boxing since he was a little boy and has an undefeated record of 23-0.
