Professional boxer Gervonta Davis found himself in custody Friday morning nearly a month after allegedly harming his former romantic partner during what was supposed to be a Father’s Day visit with their children.
The 30-year-old who resides in Coral Springs was taken in by authorities in Miami Beach before being transferred to the Doral Police Department. The charges stem from an incident on the evening of June 15 outside his ex-girlfriend’s Doral residence.
According to police reports Davis and the woman had a romantic relationship for about four years and share two children. Trouble began when Davis arrived to pick up the children for Father’s Day.
What started as a routine custody exchange quickly turned into a heated verbal exchange. The situation escalated when Davis apparently changed his mind about taking the children and told his ex to remove them from the vehicle.
The arrest report describes a troubling series of actions as the woman leaned in to get their daughter from the backseat. At that moment Davis allegedly struck her in the back of the head then slapped her face causing a small cut to her lip.
Recognizing the seriousness of the moment she texted her mother asking for help and said Davis was attacking her. Her mother quickly came outside and found her daughter visibly shaken and crying still in the middle of the confrontation.

Her mother started filming the incident with her cellphone. The footage allegedly shows Davis throwing a small box at the woman which has become key evidence.
When brought in by police Davis reportedly refused to cooperate and did not sign the Miranda form provided by officers.
The boxer now faces battery-related charges. As of Friday morning he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bond status listed as “to be set” in online records.
This situation poses a major legal issue for Davis whose boxing career has brought him widespread fame. The allegations underscore the seriousness of domestic disputes and the legal risks that can follow such events regardless of status.
The case will now proceed through the court system where Davis will have to respond to the charges linked to the June incident that has placed his personal life under heightened scrutiny.
