Bill Murray had no idea what Joe Rogan looked like when he came to do his show

Comedy legend Bill Murray recently revealed he had no prior knowledge of what UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan looked like before appearing on his show. This led to an unexpected and amusing first meeting between the two.

During the opening minutes of his appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,‘ Murray confessed his complete unfamiliarity with the popular podcaster, despite Rogan’s massive following.

“I only know about you what I’ve heard. I’ve never heard your show,” Murray admitted frankly. “I had to ask you, ‘Are you Joe?'”

The veteran actor elaborated that his mental image of Rogan was vague at best, saying, “I somehow, I knew you were like in the fitness… everyone out there seems to be a weightlifter.”

Rogan was clearly starstruck, and even called Murray’s appearance “a huge honor.” He also described himself as “a giant fan forever, like since I was a kid.”

The ‘Ghostbusters’ star revealed that his appearance on the show had generated mixed reactions among his acquaintances. “Some people are very very excited that I’ve gotten to come down here to be on your show,” Murray explained. “Other people are concerned for me.”

When Rogan asked why, Murray shrugged it off with uncertainty. He said, “Legitimately, I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s the weightlifter thing.”

Any concerns Murray might have had began to dissipate when he entered Rogan’s studio and noticed the décor. “I walked in, I saw all these Hunter Thompson things, I felt automatically like, ‘Okay, well, this guy can’t be a complete disaster,'” Murray stated.

The connection deepened when Murray spotted a photo of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson wearing a special hat that Murray had once given him. “That’s a dog hair hat,” Murray explained. “It’s made out of dog hair… when it rains on you or snows on you like it would in Woody Creek, you come in the house and you smell like a wet dog.”
