Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion Gordon Ryan recently took to social media to share his amusement at an unusual challenge he received through Facebook comments.
The accomplished grappler posted screenshots of a message from someone claiming to be a 220-pound (100 kg) individual with experience against professional mixed martial artists.
Ryan shared the challenger’s message on his Instagram account

The champion added his own commentary overlaid on the clip: This is just how easy it is to catastrophically injure the average human. Even pulling guard. Its a f**king joke. The average human is useless.”

The video he shared it on basically shows someone with mild BJJ skills heel hooking a man after a brief provocation.
The commentary aligns with comments Ryan made during an appearance on illusionist Criss Angel’s podcast. During that conversation, the jiu-jitsu champion explained his perspective on confrontations with untrained individuals.
“I mean, training with a person who has never done any martial arts or grappled in their life is literally like playing with a child, no matter what size they are,” Ryan stated during the podcast.
He went on to describe the technical approach he would take in such scenarios: “The whole dilemma is always either exposing the center line or exposing the back. ”
Ryan noted most people expose their center line so the convenient route is clear.
“And after standing bladed, then you just arm drag take their back and taking down.”
According to Ryan, this technical advantage allows him to conclude confrontations rapidly, typically within 20 seconds or less. He attributes this efficiency to the fact that individuals without grappling experience lack knowledge of basic defensive techniques against takedowns and submissions.
There are plenty of people who think they know what they would do in situations like this, but when push comes to shove, a martial art that consistently puts you in unpredictable scenarios always takes the cake.
