During a recent anti-terrorism training drill in China, footage emerged showing a law enforcement officer performing an impressive acrobatic takedown maneuver that has garnered significant attention on social media.
The video, aired on CCTV News, shows an officer executing what martial arts experts identify as a “hurricanrana” – a complex grappling technique where the performer wraps their legs around an opponent’s head and uses momentum to bring them to the ground.
In the demonstration, which took place in a cordoned-off training area, the officer wearing tactical gear approaches a participant in a safety vest before smoothly executing the dynamic maneuver. Other officers can be seen observing the carefully choreographed sequence.
Martial arts professionals and security experts have weighed in, noting that while visually impressive, such techniques would rarely be practical in real-world situations. Standard protocols typically emphasize safer control methods involving multiple officers and less acrobatic approaches.
“This is clearly a demonstration meant to showcase skills and capabilities,” explains one martial arts instructor who reviewed the footage. “In actual operations, law enforcement relies on established containment and restraint procedures.”
The drill was part of a larger public demonstration of police tactical training methods. While the technique displayed remarkable athleticism, experts emphasize it was performed under controlled conditions with willing participants trained to safely receive such maneuvers.
According to the Chinese text overlay, this was part of an organized exhibition where staff demonstrated various tactical moves, including what they termed the “scissor kick” technique.
