UFC middleweight Gerald Meerschaert recently made headlines for his generous act towards his coaching team. Following his impressive victory over Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC Vegas 96, Meerschaert was awarded a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Instead of pocketing the entire sum, the star chose to share it with his coaches at Kill Cliff FC in Florida.
Meerschaert, who holds the record for the most finishes in UFC middleweight history with 12, opened up about his decision during an appearance on the Show Me The Money podcast.
He explained that he has been striving to take care of his coaches since joining the UFC, recognizing their invaluable contributions to his success.
“You know, we don’t make as much as NBA or NFL players,” Meerschaert stated, highlighting the financial disparities between MMA and other major sports. He emphasized the importance of compensating coaches in mixed martial arts, noting that they often don’t receive the same level of financial backing as those in more established sports.
The selfless act has resonated strongly with fans. Social media platforms have been buzzing with praise for Meerschaert, with one supporter commenting, “Love Gerald.
