Dana White delivers funny roast of Dricus du Plessis: He “fights like a white guy dances”

In a recent interview, UFC President Dana White had some interesting comments about rising middleweight contender Dricus du Plessis and his unique fighting style.

“You know, I thought that Israel [Adesanya] looked incredible,” White said. “Dricus is so awkward and unorthodox, he’s got to be the toughest guy to train for.”

Du Plessis, a native of South Africa, has quickly become a fan favorite in the UFC with his unconventional and effective approach to mixed martial arts. And according to White, that style is unlike anything else in the sport.

“He fights like a white guy dances, it’s so crazy and awkward, you know what I mean? But very effective,” the UFC boss said.

True BJJ fans were offended at how sloppy that finish looked – complete with a BJJ faux pass – crossed ankles.

Official Result: Dricus Du Plessis def. Israel Adesanya by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 4, 3:38.

Despite his unorthodox technique, du Plessis has found immense success in the Octagon, amassing a perfect 6-0 record since joining the promotion in 2020. Most recently, he earned a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Derek Brunson at UFC 285 in March.

“Dricus is just a really tough matchup for anybody,” White explained. “His style is so different, it’s really tough to prepare for. He’s just a different kind of fighter.”

And while du Plessis’ dancing-like fighting style may not be the most conventional, it’s certainly proven to be effective at the highest level of the sport. With his unique skill set and growing popularity, the South African star appears poised for big things in the UFC’s middleweight division.
