Javier Mendez Denies Jake Paul Will Be Joining AKA

Jake Paul is currently speed running through his career in combat sports. Former Youtuber has gained a lot of success through pay-per-view events featuring him boxing against acclaimed albeit aged out MMA fighters. Some are actually impressed by his way of entertaining people. One of them is famous coach of one of the most successful MMA teams AKA –  Javier Mendez.

Javier Mendez gave his opinion on Jake Paul and addressed the rumors that Paul would be joining AKA if he opts to transition to MMA. These rumors are not so much rumors – but things Paul has said.

“People seem to forget that I was a state wrestler, Division 1 in Ohio, one of the hardest wrestling states,” Paul explained during a media scrum (via MMA Junkie). “I don’t see why if I can do boxing at this high of a level that I couldn’t do MMA at this high of a level.”

“I’m gonna go get coached up by Jav Mendez, Team Khabib, and that’s that. They’re down, 100 percent.”

And here’s what Mendez had to say about the shout out:

“First of all, he’s never asked. What he’s done is he’s marketed himself out there beautifully. I loved the plug he gave us, I think it was a fantastic plug and I think he’s a fantastic person and I think he markets himself fantastically, I love what he does.” Mendez said.

“It could happen but like anybody you know we have to go through all the coaches and all the fighters that are here and anybody that’s a famous athlete like him. They will go through the routine that everybody does so he would have to get voted by everybody. If there’s one person in particular that doesn’t want him here for that particular reason, he can’t be here, so everybody would have to vote.” Mendez said.

Javier Mendez has produced many legendary fighters such as Daniel Cormier, Frank Shamrock, BJ Penn, and Khabib Nurmagomedov. It would be cool if Jake can train there and prove that he can fight as many people still believe he rigged some of his fights.

It’s very surprising to hear there will be a collective vote on the matter. MMA gyms tend to be run like businesses with the coaches receiving a percentage of a fighters purse – and while Paul might be short in the skill department his purse is guaranteed to be more than your basic UFC cheque.
