Fitness Youtuber Allegedly Chose Gear Over His Marriage Despite Admitting PEDs Left Him Unable To Express Affection

Prominent fitness personality and bodybuilding competitor Mike Israetel has become the subject of speculation following his recent divorce. Israetel talked about how PEDs have fundamentally altered his emotional capacity during an appearance on the Trensparent podcast with Nyle Nayga two years ago.

Israetel spoke openly about the profound psychological effects high doses of anabolic roids have on his ability to experience normal human emotions. His revelations about these challenges, combined with his subsequent relationship status have prompted questions about whether his competitive bodybuilding pursuits may have contributed to the end of his marriage.

During the podcast, Israetel described how the PEDs fundamentally alter his emotional landscape.

“I have a very difficult time perceiving some normal human emotions, feeling them myself,” he explained. Israetel the changes extend far beyond simple mood shifts and affect his capacity for basic feelings like happiness and gratitude.

The bodybuilder painted a stark picture of his altered emotional state, recounting an experience on his Michigan property.

“Logically that used to make me happy to look at, but now I feel a combination of nothing and angry frustration,” he said of observing beautiful trees swaying in the sun. He acknowledged struggling to feel grateful and experiencing particular difficulty with physical intimacy.

Perhaps most significantly for his personal relationships, Israetel admitted these PEDs impact his ability to connect with loved ones.

“I have trouble being loving. I have trouble with enjoying and giving physical intimacy. I don’t mean [ ] is always sweet, but like loving someone is very difficult,” he shared.

The psychological toll extends to persistent anxiety and anger. Without appropriate supplements and brain health support, Israetel experiences anxiety “every single second of every day” when on higher doses.

“I have it when I wake up at night to go to sleep. It gets real old real fast,” he said.

The anger manifests as what he characterized as “righteous anger.” He described reading social media comments and fantasizing about confrontations.

“I fantasize about meeting that person in real life, walking up to them in the gym way too close to their face and be like say something you [ ],” he said, acknowledging these intrusive thoughts occur daily despite conflicting with his actual personality.

Israetel mentioned his wife Christle understanding these cycles, noting he sometimes must choose between faking emotions or communicating honestly that he’s temporarily “a cyborg.”

His wife refers to these phases as “the gears are grinding,” and he indicated she had grown accustomed to them during his competition preparations.

The fitness expert has since appeared content addressing life after divorce. In a recent video, the now 45-year-old offered guidance to men navigating the single life, suggesting extended periods without romantic connection provide opportunities for self-improvement.

His recommendations focused heavily on physical transformation and personal development. “You can spend that time on improving your look, for example. You can get shredded and jacked. Way more shredded and jacked than you need to be to be getting laid,” he suggested.

Despite acknowledging these profound challenges to his emotional wellbeing and relationships, Israetel emphasized that self-awareness remains crucial. He regularly reminds himself that aggressive thoughts stem from the compounds rather than his true character.

“You’re broken, your brain is broken for now, you cannot reason about this,” he tells himself during confrontational situations.

The bodybuilder indicated during the podcast appearance two years ago that he planned to continue competing for only a few more years. “Thank God that’s coming to an end. I’ll be able to feel happiness,” he said, acknowledging the trade-offs required for elite-level physique development.

The timeline raises questions about whether the emotional limitations Israetel described on the podcast may have played a role in his marriage ending.
