Bert Kreischer used the latest episode of 2 Bears, 1 Cave to relitigate a moment from his recent guest-hosting stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live, insisting that he, not Jelly Roll’s trainers or his own discipline, deserves the real credit for the singer’s dramatic weight loss.
Kreischer told co-host Tom Segura that he told Jelly Roll directly that he was responsible for the transformation, and that Jelly Roll agreed with him.
“I told him that I personally should be responsible for all his weight loss. That I am the reason he lost weight. And I actually fully believe that,” Kreischer said. “I told him that and he agreed.”
Kreischer acknowledged Jelly Roll put in real work. “He did a lot of hard work. He had trainers. He ate right, disciplined, yada yada yada,” he said.
But he argued the true turning point traces back to an offhand conversation on the podcast about a 5K run. According to Kreischer, that casual chat spiraled into a full event that Jelly Roll later credited publicly.
“He goes on Nelk Boys. He goes, I’m going to do the 5K. Now I think he’s responsible technically for the success of 5K because he says that on Nelk Boys, he goes into People magazine. All of a sudden Netflix wants to buy it. All of a sudden we’re having a huge 5K. Next you know we’re in Tampa with 10,000 people,” Kreischer said, adding that another 5K event is planned for April.
The conversation stemmed from Kreischer discussing his week hosting Kimmel alongside Jelly Roll, where the singer made headlines for calling President Trump a “fat pig” during a monologue, a line Kreischer said Jelly Roll fully intended to deliver.
Segura and Kreischer both defended the joke as mild compared to remarks the president himself has made about others in the past, including Rosie O’Donnell.
Kreischer also revealed that Jelly Roll’s real regret wasn’t the Trump joke but his handling of a political question at the Grammys, where declining to give a direct answer got interpreted as a statement in itself.
“I think if you’re a fan of Jelly’s, then you’re a fan of Jelly’s,” Kreischer said. “If you all of a sudden decide that you’re not a fan of Jelly’s because he made a joke about the president being a fat pig, I don’t think you were there for the ride.”
