On the latest episode of 2 Bears, 1 Cave, comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura, both close friends of Joe Rogan, dug into the controversy surrounding Jelly Roll’s recent guest-hosting stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the country singer made headlines for a pointed joke about President Trump.
According to Kreischer, Jelly Roll opened his monologue with the line, “Mr. President, from one fat pig to another.” The comment set off a wave of online reaction, with Segura noting the split response is typical for anything involving the president.
“It’s wild that he’s an outspoken critic of a sitting president and people go nuts on him for just for that,” Segura said.
The conversation quickly shifted to what Kreischer and Segura described as a notable double standard. Kreischer pointed out that Trump spent years attacking former President Biden’s mental fitness for office, only for similar criticisms to now be directed at him.
“What’s crazy too is that Trump, you know, a big thing for him was to criticize Biden so much on his mental state, right? Like he was just like, you’re auto pen and like this guy is not even there. Like he would just call him senile. He’s like, this guy’s out of his mind,” Segura said.
“But then in particularly in this presidency, he is so clearly physically and mentally falling apart. Like his cognitive stuff is clear that he’s not as sharp as he was. He falls asleep. He’s definitely put on weight. He moves around differently than he did before. He doesn’t look healthy. And he’s 80, you know?” Segura stated.
Kreischer chimed in with a story about his own father, who is 70. “My dad said to me the other day, he goes, ‘My buddy called and he said 70 is the new 60.’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘But 80 is still 80.'”
Segura added that age alone wouldn’t be the issue if Trump weren’t in the nation’s highest office.
“If he were just an 80-year-old businessman, no one would really I think spend that much time on it. But when you’re the president of the United States, you know, there’s a lot that obviously goes with that,” he noted.
Segura also took aim at official reports on Trump’s health, saying, “He’s always done these BS reports from his physicians that you read. They’re like, I’ve never seen anyone in better health. Like, what are you talking about? Like you’re clearly manipulating, paying this guy to say this stuff.”
Both comedians agreed Jelly Roll’s joke, while it generated backlash from some corners online, was mild compared to remarks Trump himself has made about others over the years, including Rosie O’Donnell.
Segura noted that comments from Trump that “would take down anybody else in politics” rarely seem to stick to him the way they would for other public figures.
The pair also defended Jelly Roll’s character, with Kreischer noting the singer wasn’t bothered personally by the backlash and remained proud of his time hosting the show.
