Aljamain Sterling arrived at the Joe Rogan Experience with gifts, but his attempt to promote a cigar brand quickly became one of the most awkward moments of the appearance.
During the conversation, Sterling presented Rogan with several cigars from Triumph Cigars, describing them as “figh ter cigars” and explaining that different varieties were associated with athletes, including Sterling’s own “Funk Master” line.
The segment appeared designed to introduce the brand to Rogan’s enormous audience. Instead, the presentation turned into an extended struggle with the packaging.
Sterling repeatedly tried to open the cigar box, eventually admitting, “If I could ever open this. I think it’s all cold now. Use my figh ting muscles.”
Rogan offered assistance, but the problem continued. Rogan took the box and tried to open it but ended up breaking a part of it. He then said, “I broke it,” before adding, “I broke that, too. What the f**k, dude?”
The awkwardness only increased when the pair began discussing the cigars’ origins. Asked where they were made, Sterling gave an uncertain answer: “Yeah. Like Cuba. Nicaragua.”
When Rogan questioned the Cuban connection, Sterling replied, “I believe it’s Cuba.”
Sterling also appeared unfamiliar with some of the basic cigar accessories. Rogan had to explain how to use the cutter and guide him through preparing the cigar.
At one point, Rogan asked, “Have you ever… Do you know how to smoke cigar, son?” before taking over the process.
The plug never fully recovered. Sterling praised the cigars as “good quality” and explained that the company works with experienced makers to create different lines. However, the brand discussion was overshadowed by the broken box, the uncertainty over the cigars’ origin and Sterling’s visible lack of experience with the product.
Ultimately, Sterling’s cigar promotion did generate attention, but not in the polished way he likely intended.
