A public rift appears to be growing between two of comedy’s most recognizable names. Theo Von has pushed back against Joe Rogan after Rogan made comments about Von’s mental health on his podcast, and the fallout has people talking.
Rogan had been discussing Theo Von in what many are describing as an unflattering light, referencing a shelved Netflix taping that reportedly did not go well, and recounting a moment where Von allegedly told a crowd he was trying not to take his own life. Rogan framed these comments as concern for his friend, but Von was not buying it.
Von responded publicly, saying, “This is mostly cap. Sad to see this kind of stuff. I’m doing great. I’m a human being, which is a rocky ride, but I’m doing fine, thanks.” It was a pointed message, and the implication was clear.

The tension between the two does not appear to start and end with this one incident. When Von appeared on Rogan’s podcast recently, the two went back and forth on geopolitical topics, including Gaza, Iran, and Israel.
Von asked pointed questions, and Rogan responded with claims that Iran is America’s enemy and the largest state sponsor of terrorism. Von pushed back, and the conversation grew noticeably uncomfortable.
Rogan also took aim at the idea of a chemical imbalance being the root cause of depression, essentially dismissing the medical concept outright. He went further, saying he had been sending Von information about getting off antidepressants and pointing him toward doctors who specialize in weaning patients off them.
Critics have pointed out that this kind of advice, coming from someone with no medical background, is troubling at best given that these medications can be critical for certain individuals.
What makes the situation more complex is the context surrounding Rogan’s social circle. Several of his longtime friends and collaborators have reportedly distanced themselves from him as he has grown increasingly close to the current political administration.
Rogan has been photographed at the White House and has spoken openly about his relationship with Donald Trump. Meanwhile, people who were once firmly in his orbit appear to be reassessing that connection.
Von’s public response signals that he is one of them. Rather than brushing off Rogan’s comments or laughing them off, Von addressed them directly and made clear he did not appreciate his personal struggles being aired without his consent.
