Powerlifter, bodybuilder, and arm wrestler Larry Wheels recently opened up about GLP-1 treatments like Ozempic and anabolic st**oids in bodybuilding.
When host Matan Even asked during his podcast what would happen if someone took Ozempic and roids simultaneously, Wheels provided a straightforward answer. “They would get shredded,” he explained.
Wheels continued: “The Ozempic would curb their appetite, but if they’re training and on st**oids, they’d be building lean tissue, right? And the Ozempic would also curb their cravings. So they’d be eating less junk food.”
According to Wheels, this combination isn’t just theoretical speculation. “Many bodybuilders actually do use things like Retatrutide, Ozempic, Tirzepatide to get an edge when they’re preparing for a bodybuilding show in addition to s**roids,” he revealed. The practice appears to be more widespread in competitive circles than many might realize.
The appeal of combining these treatments is clear from a performance standpoint. GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic and Semaglutide have become well-known for their appetite-suppressing properties.
When paired with anabolic st**oids, which promote muscle growth and recovery, the combination theoretically allows athletes to maintain or build muscle mass while simultaneously reducing body fat through decreased caloric intake.
Beyond PEDs and GLP-1 use, Wheels also touched on another topic that often draws scrutiny online: the financial dynamics of his marriage. In the same podcast appearance, he admitted that his wife would not be with him if it were not for his wealth.
“I’ve been trying to figure that out for myself. I have standards as she does,” Wheels said. “And it’s funny, they call her a gold digger, but so am I. I like gold. Who doesn’t like gold? And she wants someone that can provide and I’m stepping up to the plate. I like to do that for my woman.”
Rather than rejecting the criticism outright, Wheels leaned into it, acknowledging that wealth and status played a significant role in their relationship. He went even further, admitting that without his financial success, the relationship likely wouldn’t have happened.
“I believe to attract a woman of her stature, young, 10 out of 10, beautiful, intelligent, you need to bring something to the table, right? When I didn’t have money and status, a woman like her just wasn’t even [looking at me].
Despite that admission, he pushed back on the idea that the relationship is purely transactional. Wheels emphasized that his wife contributes in meaningful ways and defended her expectations.
“What is the problem with her looking for a man that has money and status that can provide for her the lifestyle that she wants?” he asked. He also revealed that the couple chose not to sign a prenuptial agreement, explaining, “She volunteered, I said we don’t need to. I believe we’re going to last forever.”
