Why did Ian Garry change his name? Why is Ian Garry now going by Ian Machado Garry?

Ian Garry got married to TV host girlfriend back in February of this year. Garry married Layla Anna-Lee in a shotgun Las Vegas wedding during fight camp. He was preparing to take on Darian Weeks at UFC 273.

While his performance wasn’t quite what he’d hoped for, Garry announced his wife’s pregnancy in the post fight speech.

In his post-fight interview, Garry revealed his child with 39-year-old wife Layla was at the end of this year. Garry is 24 years old – for those keeping count at home he’s 15 years younger than his wife.

“My wife is pregnant, we are expecting at the end of the year,” he told UFC commentator Jon Anik.

Garry had since struggled to get another fight so he ended up sending a harsh email to Sean Shelby.

Ian Garry faced Gabe Green at UFC 276 – and edged out another victory. Garry won via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27), at UFC 276 on Saturday, July 2, 2022, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

But something peculiar took place during the broadcast – Garry had told the commentators during fight week prep that he decided to take up another name.

Anik and Megan Olivi could be heard on the broadcast saying:

“Name change for Ian Machado Garry late in the week. What can you tell us on that?”

Olivi replied: “That’s correct. His wife , Leila, is Brazilian and Machado was her last name. She has a son who also has Machado in his name. “

“And now that she’s expecting a child with Gary, they wanted to make sure that the brothers had a name in common. So that they felt they were allone big family with co-parenting.”

“So they all added it to their name so that none feels left out”
