When Joe Rogan admitted he misjudged Ronda Rousey

Popular podcaster Joe Rogan recalled an embarrassing take he had on UFC trailblazer Ronda Rousey.

Ronda Rousey was a talented female judoka who accomplished a lot. The 35-year-old is now retired and moonlighting in prowrestling. But when she was acting in the UFC she was a bantamweight champion in Strikeforce and defended her title in impressive fashion time and time again.

Her brash personality and vicious performances set her apart from the competition, making her the first UFC star.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan was a huge fan at the time going so far as to make a bold claim about Rousey saying that she could beat 50% of UFC men’s bantamweight division.

During his appearance on his podcast the Joe Rogan Experience #JRE915, Rogan backtracked his claim in the past and made a clarification.

“I’m not happy that Ronda Rousey lost, but in a way, it makes things easier because there was a bunch of f**king people going, ‘Oh yeah, what about Ronda Rousey?’”

“And I made the mistake saying – hyperbole. I’m the master of hyperbole. I exaggerate all the time – I was like, ‘She could probably beat half the men bantamweights in the UFC.” Rogan said.

Joe Rogan changed his mind about the controversial claim but maintained there was some truth to it – the 54-year-old said that Rousey will still beat any non-professional men with the same weight.

“That’s definitely not true. I shouldn’t have said it at the time. Now it’s definitely not true. She could beat a few that aren’t good outside the sport.” Rogan said.

He added,

“Look. If she gets guys on the ground, she could f**k a lot of people up. Her Judo is 100 percent legit. Her armbars are amongst the best in the business.”
